After studying land and water use, followed by twenty years of nation-wide experience in nature and landscape conservation, the author took up the pioneering work of transforming the family farm. Nowadays, the ‘Buytenhof’, near the village of Rhoon, is a flourishing farm, where the next generation has already taken over. In 2012, the farm was declared the leading multifunctional farm in The Netherlands. Afterwards, the author made business plans for farms in the polders ‘Buijtenland’. Situated close to Rotterdam, there are historic opportunities for city-oriented farmers within a cooperative context. In addition to his work as an author and consultant, he is currently a small farmer in the Betuwe region.
